Soak up the sun

What you get when you mix art with light.

The solar-powered interactive sculpture Solar Collector opens tomorrow (June 21) in Cambridge, Ontario. Designed by Toronto’s Gorbet Design (of Lileo Light Fountain fame) and commissioned by the Region of Waterloo, the installation consists of 12 light poles. Says the site: “The tallest shaft is perpendicular to the sun at winter solstice, when the sun is low in the sky. The flattest shaft faces the high sun at summer solstice.” As of tomorrow, visitors to solarcollector.ca can compose patterns of light which will then be “played” on the light poles at night. Stimulant likes this even more because it reminds us of the Silophone.
