Kitchen sustainability

There's an app (and appliances) for that.

Bothell, WA-based Carbon Design and Seattle creative consultancy Artefact wanted to do something to show how design can create product experiences that encourage certain behaviours. In particular, they decided to focus on sustainability. Thus, the Impact Project was born, featuring a fridge, a dishwasher, a smartphone app and even a clock that help you regulate how much energy you consume. The fridge uses a bar of green light to let you know how much energy you’re wasting by keeping the door open, while the dishwasher indicates the energy efficiency of selected wash settings. The app gives context to the information it gathers from your use of the appliances, and the clock uses that information and applies it to time, charting your day-to-day usage. Phew! That’s a lot, huh? Here’s a more detailed description.
