Artist evolution

From Disney to garments to galleries.

Brantford-born but L.A.-based artist/designer Alessandro Tomassetti has come full circle. Classically trained in fine art, no one was more surprised than he when Disney hired him to create digital special effects for feature films. However, Tomassetti ultimately found the work unsatisfying and left film to pursue garment design and tailoring. Now, getting back to his fine art roots, he has produced his latest works of armour portraits — drawing a sitter wearing a piece of custom-made fabric armour, a project intricately juxtaposing his two passions and exquisitely showcasing his incredible skill. Alessandro’s latest work will be on display at the Architecture and Design Museum of Los Angeles from Aug. 11-30.

This week’s Frandoms are by Allison Wagner at Black.
