Raise the roof

This greenhouse is a little higher.

Lufa Farms, a new Montreal-based enterprise, is creating the world’s first commercial-scale production greenhouse on a roof. Near Montreal’s Marche Central, the 31,000-square-foot greenhouse will supply year-round pesticide- and herbicide-free greens to local consumers and chefs, starting in the spring of 2011. Sure beats our attempt at a rooftop garden, where the only thing we could grow was a diseased cucumber.
