Hundreds of years before Honda’s humanoid robot Asimo took its first steps, Japanese craftsmen were building karakuri – intricate figures whose motions were automated using weights and pulleys. This short video introduces Hideki Higashino, a 25-year-old karakuri artist determined to keep the tradition alive, and his fascination with the art is contagious.
