Meet the axolotl

Yes, this is a real animal. For real.

The axolotl (pronounced ACK-suh-LAH-tuhl) is an endangered salamander that’s native to a complex of lakes in central Mexico. Also known as the Mexican walking fish, it has the rare ability to regenerate most body parts and retains its larvae-like state its entire life. ┬áBecause of that, the axolotl has been studied immensely, but remains at risk of extinction.
