Masterpiece recreation

This ode to Scottish photographers is painstakingly detailed.

Photographer Maisie Broadhead and filmmaker Jack Cole created this time-lasped video to show the effort and, well, time that goes into recreating works of art. The “Ode to Hill and Adamson” (owners of Scotland’s first photo studio) starts off with an empty frame, but it’s soon filled with busy workers prepping the set. They build everything from scratch – and we mean everything – from the false wall around the portrait to the oversized lamp to the spray-painted wallpaper. They even have someone hand-paint the flowers to the right sepia tone. It’s interesting to watch the day’s progression – especially when measured by how tired the model looks at the beginning, to how chatty (and hungry) she becomes later.
