Comic inspiration

A Toronto illustrator's unique take on sports and Canadiana.

According to the website of Toronto-based comic-book artist Ian Turner, he finds inspiration in libraries, forests, classrooms, pubs, parks, arenas and galleries. We detect a dash of vibrant goofiness flowing through much of his work, especially his drawings that pertain to sports. (Minus the ones about hockey brawls.) This is somewhat mystifying given that his two favourite clubs – the Toronto Maple Leafs and English soccer club Everton – are known for offering their most loyal supporters nothing much beyond despair.
