Woven lamp

A funky light fixture based on ancient design.

Designboom.com introduces us to designer Tjiang Supertini’s akob lamp, which is based on an ancient Indonesian basket weaving technique. The lamp production received a modern upgrade, however, as the leather strips used to make it were laser-cut to maintain consistency. The leather is woven around a mould and boiled in water so the material shrinks and shapes into the desired form. Let dry for two or three days and voila, something seriously cool to put on your desk.
