Campaign for change

How an ad campaign took down a dictator.

Taking a cue from Alexander L. Morton, I recently travelled to Chile for the first time. And while I was aware of the tragedy of dictator Augusto Pinochet’s regime, I was surprised to learn an advertising campaign was instrumental in helping end it. The award-winning documentary No focuses on the 1988 campaign that used colourful, upbeat programs (and even a jingle) to persuade the Chilean people to vote Pinochet out of office. A fascinating reminder that what we do for a living really can make a difference.
