Copy nostalgia

Read my (awkward) Valentine's Day card.
cards 6

When young people realize they have a way with words, they usually end up becoming copywriters. In the earlier part of this century, you may have found yourself writing greeting cards or (dare to dream) some of these incredible Valentine’s Day cards¬†curated by Chicago-based artist Mitch O’Connell.¬†Although I don’t think these scribes had worked out the concept of a target audience yet. The imagery is innocent and sweet, but could these lines really have been intended for classmates and co-workers? The rather blunt, “Must I Hammer It In?” is just one awkward example.

This week’s Frandoms are by Jane Murray and Jonathan Daly, co-CD and strategic planner at Lowe Roche.
