Nordic music on a volcanic island.

Iceland Airwaves, the chilly island’s slightly off-the-radar annual music festival, is the real deal. And Reykjavik is like nowhere else I’ve been – a maritime city infused with a pretty big dollop of Scandinavian style. As you wander from charming venue to charming venue in the cold, listening to music that can only be Icelandic, it’s amazing to see how culture can flourish anywhere. Even on a little volcanic island in the North Atlantic.

This week’s Frandoms are by Catherine Allen, senior art director at Ogilvy & Mather.
