While anyone can take a portrait, self or otherwise, what makes really great portraiture is that which is soul-baring. Toronto director / photographer Christopher Wahl‘s newest portraiture work, The Heather Project, forgoes traditional stills for moving imagery that not only captures the craft of ballet, but also the spirit of Heather Ogden, a principal dancer at the National Ballet of Canada. The microsite he created for her displays short videos in a grid, each revealing a piece of her routine, from breaking in a pair of pointe shoes to dancing on her toes to taking in deep breaths after finishing a routine. Never will you get this close to a ballerina in action. Let’s just say the seat in front of your computer just became the best one in the house.
