Trash trickery

Don't let this painter's artistry fool you.

We’ve seen it all now. Who would have thought trash would be a symbol of the effectiveness of marketing? These paintings (yes, paintings), done on carved brasswood by Tom Pfannerstill, are replicas of what the artist calls “gifts from the street.” His artist statement includes the obvious commentary on commercialism and capitalism, but also touches on how the branding on the items played a role in convincing someone to purchase it, after which they consumed the product and recklessly discarded it. Never thought we’d get so choked up over garbage.
