Sonia Delauney

A pioneer of avant garde-style art, fashion, architecture and textiles.

There is so much I love about Sonia Delauney‘s work. It still seems so relevant to me, even though it was created from the beginning-to-mid-20th century. The bright colours, strong composition and the way she pioneered an avant garde style not just with painting, but with fashion, architecture and textiles, is so inspiring. I also love that she seemed to be a reflection of the times – embracing cosmopolitan Paris, for instance – as she progressed in her career from her first retrospective at the Louvre, all the way to the latest one that’s currently showing at one of my other Parisian favourites, the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris.
