David O’Reilly’s rebellious animated film

Watch a cat and mouse's troubled relationship in the distant future.

Golden Bear award-winning director David O’Reilly‘s breakout animated short film is about an abusive relationship between a cat and a mouse. One of the most interesting things about the film is O’Reilly’s mandate to reject all the successful conventions of animation from the last 100 years: natural movement, smooth lines, the illusion of blur – the list goes on. Not only does he carve out something that feels entirely new, but he manages to keep it emotional, packing his film with enough ideas to fill an entire feature film.

This week’s Frandoms are by Jeffrey Zablotny, director at Circle Productions.
