Wendy wins

HWKN builds a pollution-busting pavilion for MoMA.

Meet Wendy, the winning entrant in the MoMA PS1 Young Architects Program, dreamed up by New York-based architecture firm HWKN. Opening outside MoMA’s Long Island location in late June, this spiky, bright blue pavilion is covered in nylon fabric treated with a titania nanoparticle spray that neutralizes airborne pollutants. To help New Yorkers beat the summertime heat, it also sprays water and blasts cool air out of its spikes, making it a structure that’s pretty cool in more ways than one.
