21 swings

Montrealers make music with a swing set.

Unfortunately, we didn’t stick with our childhood guitar lessons. But if we could have swapped calloused fingers and metronomes for screwing around on the playground then perhaps it would have all turned out differently. Enter MontrĂ©al’s Quartier des spectacles (an area of the city with over 80 cultural venues). It hosted a musical swing set earlier this summer, the latest iteration of what’s become an annual public art installation. The installation’s creators say it’s meant to “stimulate ownership of the public space, bring together people of all ages and backgrounds, and create a place for playing and hanging out in the middle of the city centre.”
