Stunning wildlife

Honouring the world's best nature photography.

The winning entries in the Veolia Environmental Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition were unveiled recently, and man, they are beautiful. The best 100 photos were chosen from about 48,000 global entries. You can check out an online gallery of all the photos here, or head over to for some of the absolute best of the best.

Paul Nicklen won for his picture of swimming penguins, but we particularly loved the attached photo of BC’s “spirit bear,” whose white coat contrasts beautifully against the surrounding rain forest. If you’re curious about what it takes to become a wildlife photog of the year, Paul apparently followed this fellow through the woods before crouching one meter away to snap his award-winning shot.
