Repurposed wood

Furniture from felled trees.

As its name suggests, Toronto-based Urban Tree Salvage (UTS) recycles wood, which come from a surprising number of places, even in a concrete-filled urban environment. Toronto apparently has 10 million trees lining its streets and parks (not to mention all the salvageable material from the innumerable construction sites in the GTA). UTS steps in when a tree falls down, repurposing the wood to be sold as lumber, but also using some of it to create eye-catching furniture pieces. These sure beat plastic Ikea tables.
