Animated equations

Ruler + technology = classroom fun.

Three researchers at MIT Media Lab’s Fluid Interfaces group have taken the old, reliable ruler and given it a tech-y makeover. In Anirudh Sharma, Lirong Liu, and Professor Pattie Maes’ Glassified project, they’ve embedded a translucent OLED screen connected to a microprocessor into the straight edge, allowing students to animate drawings (for example, a beam of light rolls down a slanted line like a ball on a ramp). We think we might have enjoyed geometry class a bit more if this had been around.
