Glowing achievement

NASA scientists bring the Aurora Borealis down to earth.

Remember your summer internship? The useful practical experience you gained and the feeling you had by the end of it, that, yeah, maybe you could do your thing after all. Well, whatever your accomplishments, you probably didn’t build a dome that can simulate the Northern Lights like Sam Walker, a University of Texas student, did over the summer at NASA’s Langley Research Centre in Virginia with research scientist Guillame Gronoff. They call their creation the Planeterrella and it uses a magnetic field, charged particles and a sphere to put on quite the light show.
