A social network that's totally creeped out by ads.

elloEllo? Is it an ad-free social network you’re looking for? This new private social site, designed by a group of American artists, called Ello, promises to never sell ads and personal data to third parties. It was built because, well, its owners think “mapping your social connections for profit is both creepy and unethical.” The truth is, while Facebook dominates the social space, many are tiring of the site, and not just because they’re over scrolling through images of other people’s babies and what their sister’s husband’s cousin’s nephew had for breakfast, but because they’re becoming fed up with brands knowing their every move. According to Fast Company, one of the site’s founders says it’s getting between 3 and 5,000 requests for invites every hour (you have to be invited to join, either by the site or already registered friends/family). Not bad considering it launched the beta version less than two months ago.
