Giant Flag

This seen-from-space South African flag could create hundreds of jobs.

It’s been done before. KFC once created an ad so big, it could be seen from space. And while the stunt was a buzz-builder for the brand, that was pretty much all it did. Now, agency FCB South Africa has taken the seen-from-space idea and eschewed the product-selling angle, instead giving back to an African community that’s suffering from low employment rates. The shop is attempting to build a Giant Flag, shaped and coloured like the South African national flag. It’s planned to be 165 acres large (or 66 soccer fields) and made up of┬ámillions of cacti and succulent plants, as well as solar panels to offset carbon emissions and power 4,000 homes in the area. What’s more, it’ll create over 700 jobs. And anyone can be a part of the flag, by donating $10, $100 or $250 to help plant the flowers, as well as build roads and solar panels. It’s a small ask for a pretty massive task..
