A new kind of skywriting

Uber takes to the skies to taunt Mexico City drivers.

Mexico City is known for its gridlock, and Uber noticed. While drivers may wish their cars were able to lift off and float above the fray to wherever they’re headed, they’re instead being exposed to aerial taunts from the ride-sharing company.

In a recent stunt for UberPOOL, the company enlisted drones to fly over the city’s bumper-to-bumper commuters, carrying signs. The messages included “Driving by yourself?” and, in a reference to the city’s smog, “This is why you can never see the volcanoes.”

It’s probably fitting that the same company that’s changing the way we get around cities would also have its own take on aerial advertising, leaving the airplane banner and skywriting behind.
