Meteor shower as branding opportunity

Lotto 6/49 wishes upon a shooting star. And another. And another.


While many were gazing skyward over the weekend, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Perseid meteor shower, Loto-Québec saw a chance to target those fixated on their devices.

On Aug. 8 and 9, the lottery brand played up its “You should play 6/49 ” platform by Sid Lee with a live feed of the sky at Mont-Mégantic, as the earth passed through debris from the comet Swift-Tuttle. On its Facebook page, the brand’s stream featured a counter adding up the shooting stars and telling viewers to “Make a wish.”
