YWCA has launched #NOTokay, a social media campaign aiming to empower Canadians to speak up against depictions of violence against women in the media. The campaign as a whole is meant to show just how prevalent this is,with the point made obvious in a series of 15-second videos posted on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter created by agency partner Juniper Park. The videos take rapid-fire bursts of violence from a best-selling video game, an Emmy-winning TV show and a music video from a Grammy-winning musician, then juxtapose the clips with a related statistic about female victims of abuse in Canada. It bluntly drives home that these are not merely games or jokes, and encourages viewers to stand up and say that it’s #NOTokay.
