Whisper of hope

ConnecTeen lets young people know where to turn.

When you’re a young person, it can be hard to know where to turn when you have something important to say: That you’re lonely. That you want to come out but don’t have a support system. That an adult in your life is making you feel unsafe. ConnecTeen is a recently launched crisis line in Calgary where teens can talk to other teens about problems and get advice about where to turn. The service is also anonymous, which often makes the process easier to initiate, something that has been exemplified by how popular apps like Whisper, which allows users to post thoughts and confessions anonymously, have become with young people. Seeing the connection, Calgary-based agency Trigger Communications launched a series of branded posts on Whisper, letting teens know that staying anonymous doesn’t mean they have to deal with their problems alone.
