Square One gets buzzworthy

The shopping centre worked with NKPR and urban beekeeping company Alvéole to install four beehives on its rooftop.

Here’s a sweet idea: After hearing buzz about the decline of global bee populations, Square One Shopping Centre, installed beehives on their rooftop in Mississauga, Ont.

Executed by Square One with NKPR and urban beekeeping company Alvéole‏, the bee-positive Corporate Social Responsibility initiative had a helping hand from none other than Stephanie Shepherd (a.k.a. Kim Kardashian’s former assistant and COO of Kardashian West Brands) who promoted Square One’s hives to her 1.1 million Instagram followers.

To help with the launch, a yoga and body conditioning class was held on the rooftop on July 16. With queen bee Shepherd (pictured middle) doing her best warrior pose.

And while it may all seem a tad out of reach, the honey that’s produced will be sold at the Simons located below in the shopping centre.

Similar initiatives have cropped up around the world, with the London Stock Exchange, New York’s Waldorf Astoria and Edinburgh’s Scottish Parliament all installing their own rooftop hives.

Now there’s something sweet to bee positive about.
