It’s like a snowball effect. Once one Back to the Future piece of technology was created (here’s looking at you Hoverboard), more keep coming. Not that we’re complaining, we’d love a pair of shoes that uses a sensor to detect our feet and then tightens and closes up using a tiny electric motor. Who wouldn’t?

The new self-lacing Nike Hyperadapt 1.0 shoes solve a few regular shoe problems, according to the brand: “Undue pressure caused by tight tying and slippage resulting from loose laces are now relics of the past.” But the shoe will only be available, beginning in the 2016 holiday season, to members of Nike+ (we know what’s going on the Christmas list we give to our Nike fan friends this year). In addition to the above magical shoe, Nike has also designed a new pair of football cleats that are essentially dirt and mud-resistant. No more being weighed down by sticky mud getting caught in the grooves of the shoe, the clever company has figured out a way to make the sole slippery so that mud doesn’t cling, according to Dezeen. The plate beneath has a special material made of a a polymer that basically butts head with water when they come in contact. And now we’ve heard it all.
