Saccharine goodbyes

Care for apple pie with a side of words that may (nay, will) make your heart drop in your stomach?

Next time you have to have that conversation with a partner, consider doing some baking first.

That seems to be the message from Isabella Giancarlo, who works at New York agency Love&War by day and bakes pure sorrow by night. “Eat Your Heart Out” is her series of break-up lines, “remembered as something sweet.”

Maybe the purpose is more emotional eating with a sense of humour, a way to cheer a friend up after the fact. But if you’re forced to digest a line like, “I see you more as my sister,” wouldn’t you at least want some help washing it down with apple pie?
