Take a (taxi) stand

Montreal gets creative while hailing cabs.

The city of Montreal is holding a contest called ‘Le taxi prend ses aires!’ to design a new taxi stand – the idea being to improve on the old design and make them look all cool and stuff. The competition is one of the five ‘shûkos,’ or creative challenges, issued by the mayor of Montreal. The jury picked five winning designs and the public can vote for their fave. The ‘Choix du public’ (people’s choice) and the ‘Coup de coeur’ (favourite among the taxi industry) will be announced in September. There are no guarantees of the city implementing the winning idea, and we think that’s good because Montreal doesn’t need to get any cooler, thanks.
