Imitation is not always the highest form of flattery
Parody engagement and newborn photography is officially a trend.
If social media has taught us anything, it’s that (when it comes to people broadcasting their lives to the world) monkey see, monkey do. If you’re at the age of life-changing events, then you’re likely inundated with streams of newborn baby, engagement and wedding photos, many of which are taken by professional photographers who set up scenes that make the subjects’ lives seem perfect. And as with almost any trend, there will be parodies that sarcastically point out the ridiculousness of it all.
Abby Lee and Matt Kay wanted people to stop asking when they would finally get knocked up, so they hired pro photog Elisha Minette to photograph them with their puppy in poses typically used in shoots with newborn babies (think of all the cliches and they did it, like wrapping their pup up like a burrito, lying in bed with only their feet and puppy paws poking out of the blanket and cuddling their little one while gazing sweetly into his eyes). This, combined with David Sikorski’s romantic engagement photoshoot with the love of his life and a juicy burrito (which got McDonalds in some hot water recently after the brand was found to have plagiarized the material) makes us think this could be the start of a beautiful trend.
