Warning: a moment of venting ahead.

For the past few years, this Stim writer has been at war with (some of) her colleagues in the office. It’s really a quiet war, and to tell you the truth, I don’t even know who my actual enemies are. It’s really a fight for who can turn up or turn down the thermostat the quietest, the quickest, and the most often during the summer. As it turns out, I’m not the only one; this war has been taking place for decades and among men and women all over.

You see, the New York Times once reported that office thermostats are set to keep a 40-year-old, 154-pound man comfortable at his resting metabolic rate. It’s apparently been that way since the 1960s. Women, however, are not built to withstand frigid temperatures. We’re also not built to just take it, at least not anymore.

Some fearless ladies at BBDO recently created an initiative to bring about the only type of climate change one would want. That is, work climate change. They’re fighting the thermostat war with a website and pre-written letter, which women (or even men if they’re not feeling the office temperature) can download and send to their building managers to find a new thermostat setting for their office building.

Hey, if it worked for them, it could work for you, too. But if that’s not enough to convince the decision makers, send them this hilarious parody that speaks to every freezing female worker who has ever sat in the bathroom, holding their hands under the warm water tap to defrost.
