A coat that’s also a tent

Meant for refugees, this neat coat-tent is a "wearable dwelling."

Today’s prominent and persistent refugee issue is an awful one, but there is always a bright side if you look hard enough. From this dire problem, ideas are being born. Young minds are getting creative and coming up with ways to make life easier for refugees who find themselves displaced and without a home. Take the students at the Royal College of Art in London. They’ve designed a spectacular multi-purpose garment. Essentially, it’s a wearable dwelling, which means a person can wear the item as an almost full-length coat, and it can be used to house an adult and a child when transformed into a tent. The brief for the Masters students came from clothing brand Wall, according to PSFK, and they’re going full steam with their plans to produce the coat-cum-tent for real. If Kickstarter crowdfunding all goes to plan, the “coat/sleep-sac/tent refugee wearable” will be in charities’ hands by this June.
