This Bud’s for Charlize
The Budweiser spot featuring the Oscar-winning actor will air during the awards ceremony.
The Oscars have occasionally been dubbed “the Super Bowl for women.” We won’t comment on those stealthy gender assumptions, but we will say that Budweiser’s switcheroo on its 60-second spot featuring Oscar-winning actor Charlize Theron makes a lot more sense. Originally the ad, which features Theron gripping her glass of Budweiser Reserve Copper Lager throughout, was slated to air during Super Bowl LIII earlier this month. It will now air during the 91st Academy Awards ceremony this Sunday
The brand ultimately opted to hold the spot for the Oscars, running Bud Light spots during the football game instead. The underlying message of female empowerment in “A New Bud in Town” feels better suited to Hollywood’s big night. Like Theron in the fun ad, the brand has hit the bulls-eye with its savvy ad buying.

Plus, the spot, with creative by New York’s VaynerMedia, now has the benefit of having its glamourous star set to present during the actual televised ceremony this weekend. Well played, Budweiser. Well played.
