Finally, Cristiano Ronaldo selfies on demand

The soccer star has a new app that lets you pose with him for a good cause.

During this Stim writer’s first and only trip to Hollywood, as a 13-year-old, a surprisingly enduring highlight was posing for a photo with a cardboard cut-out of Cindy Crawford. That cheaply-framed Polaroid with the sunset background is still around. So while I’mĀ far from hostile to the concept of fake celebrity selfies, as a Barcelona fan, this new Save the Children initiative is unsettling.

Cristiano Ronaldo, the often-shirtless Portugal and Real Madrid star who’s one of most popular and most polarizing athletes in the world, has a new app. “CR7Selfie: Fans With a Cause” allows anyone to pick their favourite Cristiano from 68 photos (Ballon d’or Cristiano, karaoke Cristiano and, yes, various shirtless Cristianos) and to top it off with one of 39 filters.

But we can’t write this one off as an egocentric endeavour when the star is donating a portion of the $1.99 purchase price to Save the Children, for which Ronaldo is the Global Artist Ambassador.
