Orange is the new bark
Danny Trejo stars as a dog stuck in the shelter system.

Bet you didn’t expect to see Danny Trejo get thrown into a dog pound by Urkel today, did you?
Trejo, who is quickly becoming one of our favourite actors in commercials, has been enlisted by Atlanta agency Breensmith in this PSA for Friends of Animals advocating for the spaying and neutering of pets in order to keep unwanted animals out of shelters. In a send-up of hard-nosed prison dramas, Trejo plays a dog that is a product of a couple that wasn’t spayed or neutered and has found himself in and out of shelters his whole life. He is captured in a park by Jaleel White (who is making a case to be our other favourite actor) and tossed into a shelter, having to deal with canine versions of prison gangs and finding out how to reconnect with his girlfriend (who is a cat sex worker, another thing you probably didn’t expect to see today). It’s a bit silly, sure, but with three million pets dying in shelters every year, showing them as such rough places to live might not be that far off.
