The downside of the sharing economy

Home Away plays to our distaste of interacting with others.

One of the things that has us the most apprehensive about using services like Airbnb is the idea of invading someone else’s private residence and potentially having to sit through an awkward interaction with them if they happen to be there at the same time. On the other hand, resorts aren’t much better, having to share nearly every moment with an even larger group of complete strangers. Home Away, which provides rentals of private vacation homes, thinks it can give you a happy medium.

In this spot by Saatchi & Saatchi London (and, despite the lack of surrealist gags, directed by Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!), the brand wonders why you would spend all that money on a trip, only to have to share it with someone else. From sharing pools and buffet lines, with overstimulated kids and hairy grown men, to the lines that get crossed when you use someone else’s bedroom or bathroom, finding a home-style residence that’s made for people who are looking for a private vacation seems to be the best of both worlds.

If nothing else, getting Nick Offerman to do your voiceover is a really easy way to put us at ease about pretty much anything.
