Chevy creates a house of horror

Sam Raimi directs a spot that feels more like a scary film trailer.

If you’re going to use a haunted house as a cheeky metaphor for the dangers on the road, you might as well bring in someone known for blending horror and comedy.

To promote the new safety features in Chevrolet’s 2016 cars, agency Commonwealth/McCann brought in Sam Raimi, known for directing three Spider-Man films in the 2000s, but loved by many, many more fans for horror films like Drag Me to Hell and the cult classic Evil Dead series. The spot, which feels more like a movie trailer and will be playing in cinemas across the U.S., sees a young lady enter an ancient house filled with almost every horror trope from the last ten years. Dark figures running through the shadows. Twitching, faceless bodies. Loved ones suddenly behaving strangely. It all leads up to her approaching one, ominous closed door before the unseen viewers yell out the things we all wish we could say to movie characters.

Not only did Raimi bring his horror chops to the commercial, they enlisted cinematographer Daniel Mindel, whose recent work includes a film you may have heard of called Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as well as Star Trek, Mission Impossible III and Enemy of the State. Anyone else think that if they were bringing in all that creative firepower, perhaps they could’ve tracked Bruce Campbell down for a cameo as well?
